A Dysfunctional Family of Five Reviews...50 First Dates!
Feb 13 2004 by Allen VoivodRomantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, with enough plot-logic holes to put a Swiss cheese factory to shame. But you weren't expecting plot logic, were you?
Dad: Why do some of the best comic actors have to grow up and get all sensitive with each passing movie? Sandler thinks he can fool me with the poop jokes, but it's all a sham! I thought you'd be different, Sandler! Damn you!
Mom: If you committed as much to this marriage as you do to tracking the careers of comic actors...aw hell, I'd still be married to an overbearing purse-pilfering dimwit.
Sis: Roach Kirkson must think I have a memory like Drew's. He totally thinks that "If your left leg was Thanksgiving and your right leg was Christmas, could I meet you between the holidays?" line is going to work, like, fifty times in a row.
Bro: It would be so cool if I could get yakked on by a walrus. I wonder what that would smell like...
Baby: Hey, they're no Tracy and Hepburn, but Sandler and Barrymore definitely have awesome chemistry, and you don't get that so often anymore. If only my parents showed that kind of spark, instead of the kind that comes out of a flare gun shot off from a sinking ship. What, you think I can't sense it? I'm foster care bait unless I can turn this gig into a syndicated TV show and make them depend on me for money.
Verdict: Doesn't have to be seen on the big screen. But if you're going with a date, odds are you'll both find things to like about it.
