Nader Rejects Cookie Monster's Plea

Reform Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader will continue his plans to compete in the Family Circle 2004 Election Cookie Cook-Off, despite an appeal yesterday from long-time Sesame Street resident Cookie Monster that Nader withdraw from the contest.

Nader, who has never been married, will join First Lady Laura Bush, and presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry's wife Teresa Heinz Kerry in the long-running competition, which has traditionally pitted the favorite cookie recipe of the First Spouse against one from the wife of the opposing party's Presidential hopeful.

As expected, the consumer advocate will enter his recipe for "honey hermits." Insiders say Cookie is livid about the decision.

Cookie met with the Reform Party nominee behind closed doors, hoping to convince him to resist the urge to play spoiler again. The meeting reportedly ended in an abrupt fashion, after a defiant Nader offered Cookie a plate of hermits as refreshments.

Witnesses heard "yelling and screaming" between the two and said Cookie "stormed out" of the heated summit.

"He was more blue than usual and his fur was standing up," one lady observed. "He was awfully animated and his eyes were going crazy."

Despite the controversy, Cookie's fellow Sesame Street resident, Oscar the Grouch, liked Nader's chances after sampling one of the snacks.

"They're pretty good," admitted Mr. Grouch. "Taste like trash."
