21 Satire Awards in 2005 Means Clean Cubicles for Humor Site's Staff Jan 18 2006 by Allen Voivod (Released on eMediaWire - click here to see it there!) Described as "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" meets Samuel L. Jackson, humor site DeadBrain.com finished strong in 2005 by winning 21 Satire Awards. An industry leader in the mockery of news, entertainment, politics and sports, DeadBrain.com has been compared favorably to The Onion, and prominently featured on sites such as HowardStern.com, BuzzFlash.com, TownHall.com, and Google News.
"Rather than give the staff a verbal pat on the back, as I did after our last win, I paid for their cubicles to be steam-cleaned," Voivod said. "It's very depressing when the dust and dander build-up obscures the natural earth tones of the wall fabric." In the last voting period for The Satire Awards, DeadBrain.com won a total of eight first-place awards for its delivery of sharp satirical comedy, bringing its 2005 total to 20 "First Place" awards and one "Second Place" award. DeadBrain.com also took home top honors in the site design, celebrity, sports, current events, headline, believability, and "Best Overall" categories. "When I become president of the world I will make sure DeadBrain is my Press Secretary. Because if they can make 'North Korea Opens Arms Talks With Tommy Hilfiger' a believable story, they can put a spin on anything and make it look good," said Creu, one of the competition's two founders - and who prefers, like Cher and Prince before him, to go by a single monosyllabic name. "If President Bush had these guys, his approval rating would be through the roof." The "Overall" win was the first for Chicago-area freelance contributor Jim Bauman. He cast George Bush and Dick Cheney in the roles of Harpo and Chico Marx for his article "A Day and a Night of Horse Feathers and Animal Crackers in Duck Soup," and won the laughter of Satire Award voters. "We're tremendously grateful to the people who voted for Jim and the rest of the talented DeadBrain.com writers," Voivod said. "Without that dedicated fan base, we wouldn't have any justification for our continued existence. And no one wants a group of suicidal satirists on their hands. So thank you, voters, for taking a few moments out of your day to save lives." The Satire Awards celebrate the highest achievements in mockery of current events, celebrities, sports, and politics. Its membership includes nearly 100 websites, which specialize in skewering topics of the day from every conceivable angle and affiliation. DeadBrain was founded in Britain in July 2001 (it's now known as DeadBrain UK). A roaring success there, the brand expanded to the U.S. with DeadBrain.com in August 2003. Now in its third year of operation, DeadBrain.com continues its journey into the Internet stratosphere. Its editor, Allen Voivod, was recently featured on National Public Radio affiliate WEVO, in their half-hour interview show The Front Porch. To read more about the DeadBrain story, click here.
