Tennessee Football Email Calms Some Fans, Boggles the Minds of Others

Vote now!

Do YOU believe the people of Tennessee can use email?
Yes, because I'm one of them
No, because I'm one of them
Hey, you can't both be one of them
Gosh, Tennessee is soooo confusing
Unable to fully express his dismay over his team's dismal performance this season, Tennessee head football coach Philip Fulmer did what no other coach in Tennessee history had ever done. Fulmer sat down at a computer at the Knoxville Kinko's to type a message to the Tennessee faithful.

In the 300-word email, Fulmer expressed his sorrow for the football team's poor performance. The Volunteers finished the season with a 5-6 record. He accepted blame for the season and vowed to do everything within his power to "right the ship."

"This is really a big deal for Volunteer Athletics and Tennessee residents," commented Richard Hurtz, a former resident of Tennessee. Hurtz, a life-long Volunteer fan, was forced to move from Knoxville to his current location of Jackson, Mississippi when he became "too qualified" for jobs in Tennessee after his high school graduation at age 25.

"Coach Fulmer has shown the world that Tennessee is on the cutting edge of technology," continued Hurtz. "Pretty soon I'll be able to set my VCR to tape my favorite TV shows for my grandma in Newport. I know she'll love the VCR."

While Hurtz and the handful of Volunteer fans that actually have computers to read the email were impressed with Fulmer's commitment to making Volunteer Football dominant once again, not everyone was as excited.

"I ain't read no email from that guy. What's an email, anyway?" questioned Mike Rotch, a Knoxville resident and season-ticket holder. "All I know is that he said he's going to get rid of losing and then he hires someone who was fired from his last job for not winning enough." (On Tuesday Tennessee announced the hiring of David Cutcliffe as offensive coordinator. Cutcliffe was fired by the University of Mississippi after a 4-7 2004 season.)

"I wasn't too upset until we lost to those Vanderbilt nerds at home," recalled Rotch of the losing season. "That one really stuck with me. We shouldn't be losing to those bookworms. Not even during a war when our guys are fighting overseas and their guys are hiding behind the books in the library."
