Past movie nights have featured Cinderella Man, Miracle, Hoosiers, Rocky, Rudy, and Seabiscuit. As for the 2006 movie morale booster? Glory Road, right? Wrong. "We went to see Brokeback Mountain last night," said head coach Phil McCraken. "Glory Road? What's Glory Road?" After having it explained that Glory Road was the feel-good movie about seven black athletes being recruited to play college basketball at Texas-Western University and winning the NCAA tournament against the University of Kentucky, McCraken responded, "How the hell would that help my basketball team? "We need to work on our fundamental skills. The two most important in particular would be our ball handling and backdoor cuts & lay-ins. Oh, and our man-to-man defense. These boys need to work on that a bunch. I heard this movie covers all that in explicit detail." And how did Coach McCraken's movie night and the following playoff game end up? "Well, it just seemed like everyone walked out of that theater a few inches taller in certain respects. Practice the next day was awesome. The boys kept piling on the floor for every loose ball."
