Steriod Abuse and Online Poker - Partners at Last

Vote now!

Do YOU fear the creeping on steroids into other sports?
I don't play sports - I'm a teetotaler
You idiot, that has nothing to do with sports
Drinking was a sport in my younger days
Yeah, drinking your urine, you "Survivor" wannabe
It was only once, and the bubbler was broken!
When one thinks of steriod use, one's thought turn to baseball, football, and women's Olympic weight lifting. But there's a new arena of controversy opening up, and this arena is online.

James "Maddog" McCreary sits at his computer, staring at the avatars of his fellow online poker players. "Look at this guy, 'Joker47,' he's betting strong every single hand. Every single hand," he mutters to himself, "All-in. He's won every pot so far. And look at his avatar, the friggin' steriod hound. No way it could get that big without 'roids." The avatar James is referring to is a large yellow smiley face.

"And then you have this one, 'angeleyes9912,' can your name get any longer, you juiced up chemical depository?" James snarls. "Don't let her avatar fool you, she's no innocent little fluttery angel. She's a check-raiser. She lures people in by checking and then *BAM* hits them with the maximum raise. I can feel the 'roids oozing out of my screen with these two.

"Now look at the hands they get." James calls the bet for several hands, "Straight flush. Four queens. Low straight. Every hand it's the same. No one is that good. I mean, really."

James plays a few more hands, then just shuts it off in disgust. "Something has to be done. These poison pumpers are ruining the name of online gambling." When asked why he doesn't try a different site, he responds, "It's all the same everywhere. These glory hounds are sucking all the fun out of the vice. I'm telling you, the Online Poker Association of America (OPAA) better step up and do something, and fast. Because at this rate, the entire online gambling industry is in danger of becoming a farce."

James is not alone in his quest. His online petition has over five thousand signers. "We've even attracted several celebrities, like Maya Angelou and Jamie Farr. No one likes a cheater. Hopefully the Association will take action."

OPAA left a message with our answering service and said that they take cheating seriously and are looking into the matter.
